Book Merge via Keyboard Shortcut Not Working

First noted in Calilbre 2.8.
Also appears in Calibre 2.9.
Ubuntu 14.04.

Launch Calibre Library.
Run Find Duplicates plugin 1.6.2 by Grant Drake

Configure duplicate search as
- Select Find Book Duplicates
- Search Type = Title/Author
- Title matching = Similar
- Author matching = Similar
Click OK
List of possible duplicates are returned.
Select Duplicate book 1, ctrl click to select Duplicate book 2
Press M (for merge) on keyboard

In Calibre 2.7 and earlier the 2 books would merge into another
No merging takes place...

Remapping the keyboard shortcut under Preferences - Change Calibre Behaviour - Keyboard - Edit Metadata... unexpected behaviour persists.

Click Edit Metadata icon - Merge Book Records - Merge into first selected book, delete others - then 2 books merge as expected.
