Shortcut to template editor

I'd like to be able to launch the template editor directly from the library view, with a live display of the template result for the selected book(s). The suggested method of creating a custom column is not optimal, I think. See here: http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=244850

I am not sure I understand what you want to do. The thread you pointed at was about editing a template in a custom column from the library view, and a solution was provided.

Are you asking to have the template editor open on *no column* so you can play with templates but store it nowhere? If so, what is the use case?

The thread was originally about this same request, the discussion about the custom colums was only to show that that solution is not enough, or convenient enough.

I want a quick way to play with templates, before deciding where to use them (save template, plugboards, custom column, searches, coloring rules...). In most of these places I can play with templates, but they don't show a live output, or they are modal dialogs (or children of those), so I cannot quickly change the selected book.

Of course, I don't *need* it, I can live without it, but I was kind of expecting the feature to be already there.

Fixed in branch master. The fix will be in the next release. calibre is usually released every Friday.
