OSX Mavericks - calibre crashes when connecting Kindle Paperwhite

Bug Description
After upgrading to OSX Mavericks (10.9), calibre crashes every time I connect my Kindle Paperwhite. If I do not connect it, calibre runs fine. I have tried connecting my Kindle before and after starting calibre - crashes either way.
What happens specifically is that calibre starts. Then once the Kindle is attached, after a few seconds, the column will be added to the screen (the one that show if the book/file is on the Kindle or not), and then it immediately crashes.
I am running calibre 1.7.0 for MacOSX.
