I am going to need more information, as I cannot replicate this error.
Do the following steps in calibre 1.0

1) Go to Preferences->Tweaks and click the Plugin Tweaks button in the
bottom left corner
2) Enter the following in Plugin Tweaks
newdb_debug_locking = True
3) Now right click the preferences button and restart calibre in debug
mode
4) Post the debug log after reproducing this error

I'm having this error as well.

Unfortunately I can't turn on Debug because the error just keeps coming up. The only way out is to Force Quit the app.

You can also enable debugging on OS X by editing the file

~/Library/Preferences/calibre/tweaks.py

and adding

newdb_debug_locking = True

at the bottom of the file.

@Tom: In your case I'd guess the problem is almost certainly caused by
the DRM removal plugin you have installed which is popping up an error
message in the middle of a file add -- something it should never do.

Correct. I updated the DRM Removal tool (DeDRM plugin), and the error went away.

Now I'm back up to version 1.1 again - thanks!
