Bug Description
When multiple books are emailed to a device using Gmail, Calibre waits for 5 minutes between each job so that email spam controls are not invoked. (Actual delay time may be influenced using Preferences / Tweaks).
A delayed job is actually started - as can be seen from the single entry in the job log:
Starting job: Email <title> to <email address hidden>
For an unwary user, this appears as if Calibre has hung.
Suggest that Calibre also sends an entry to the job log noting the delay and its duration - thereby keeping the user informed of the reason for Calibre's bahaviour.

Fixed in branch master. The fix will be in the next release. calibre is usually released every Friday.
