Bug Description

v. 0.9.34
Windows 8

I have to go to column, show every time I start Calibre to get my custom column plus "size" column. It is running fine with 1 custom column I made approx 1 year ago. At that time I chose not to also show 'size', among others. I now want 'size' to show plus another custom column and it won't keep them there when I restart, so I have to manually show them each time.

While I am here can I also ask for a enhancement.
When metadata is ready and I am notified would it be possible to putting the mouse focus on 'review metadata' instead of OK. If I am in the middle of organising other books in the main program and go to click on a book to change, I lose the chance to review my metadata as the mouse focus changes to that window and approved them all at once. Could be up to 50-100 books which quite often have the wrong metadata allocated to them. It happens so fast I don't have a chance to stop the 'click' action. I always review the data now that I can and find it indispensable to my organization of my books.

I cannot reproduce this, you are probably using a third party plugin
that controls column layout like the view manager plugin. Uninstall it.

And changing the default focused button might be good for you, but it
would mean that people that expect OK to be focuses would now have to
remember that it isn't everytime they used that dialog.

That worked. I uninstall the 3rd party plug in and brought up my custom
columns restarted and they were there, thanks for that.
As to the focus being on OK, I don't think I would be the only one
suffering from mouse clicks going to the wrong window when working on my
library as it is a frequent occurrence and I have to manually check 50
-100 books for incorrect metadata allocation. Is there any way I can
work around this. I love the chance to review my metadata and for a long
time wished that this was implemented in Calibre but find I can't really
use it if I am also continuing to work on cleaning up my library. It is
over 20000 ebooks now and growing daily. I have a very organised library
and am always working on it. I feel this is something I can leave to my
grandchildren as it is very comprehensive library, fiction and non
fiction but of course I want covers and metadata to reflect the actual
ebook.
I am on a pension and as soon as I have some spare change I will donate
it to you as I think this is the best software, apart from photoshop,
that I have ever used, I can never recommend it highly enough. In fact
nowadays I use it more than photoshop, lol, it is a part of my daily life.

Mouse focus problem: As I sent the last email to you I realised I know
of the solution myself. I will just go to my mouse default controls and
change the setting for the mouse to NOT snap to the default button in
the dialogue box, a hassle but it is quicker than manually checking all
that books with wrong metadata. If I leave the box up it is simply to
change it back and forth. Maybe the review window could be done to not
be the dialogue box in focus when it finishes downloading. Just a
thought. I know you are always working on making Calibre better and
probably get sick of every ones suggestions but if I don't ask I will
never know.

Hmm, well since accidentally trigerring review instead of OK has a
smaller downside, I will change the focused button to Review in the next
release.

Thank you so much. I always update every time so I will be waiting for
this. I am in the middle of putting all my separate non fiction
libraries into one Non Fiction library, with various Virtual Libraries,
about 20, so I will wait until then to do my metadata corrections.
Virtual Libraries was also another great idea.

Hi there, I downloaded the update last Friday. I use the portable
Calibre so I am not sure if that is the problem but the focus for the
mouse is still going to OK instead of review metadata. I have disable
'snap to' in mouse option for now but thought I would drop a line a let
you know. I hate bothering you as I can guess you are busy each week but
it would be nice to have fixed if you have the time. Since I first wrote
to you I actually realised for the focus to be change isn't really that
successful for easy editing anyway. It would be better to have no focus
on any button and that way if I am in the middle of manually changing a
column I can continue to do so. At the moment the focus becomes the new
window and then I have to go back and find the column I was working on
and finish changing the data as it usually stops halfway through. It is
more time consuming than going manually to the button myself and
clicking on review. I wouldn't bother you but I am in the middle of 7000
books, fixing up metadata and covers and would love to have the process
become smoother.
