Bug Description

Maybe I am just stupid. In searching for a way to auto-update I did find the note at http://manual.calibre-ebook.com/faq.html#why-doesn-t-app-have-an-automatic-update and it is nice to see that people are trying to conserve bandwidth by preventing auto updates (are the files hosted on Google, and I totally agree that having every one of those 300,000 plus users make five extra clicks for each of the updates is totally worthwhile - if those five clicks take one minute, that is less than 7 months of user time for each update - totally worth it to not implement any sort of in-app update.

What would be nice however is to adjust the ability to "turn off the update notification" from within the application with a bit more fine grained control. After two hours of searching through Calibre's interface and forums and Google, I did finally find the single check box in "Interface" -> "Behaviour" beside a bunch of other options that in my mind do not fit together conceptually very well.

How is this for a suggestion: Place the update notification preferences their own "Interface" -> "Updates" preference, and along with controlling the notification of new version, give an option to set how frequently the version is checked: every launch, weekly, monthly, yearly, etc.

As an aside, I am assuming that the underlined letters in the preferences has something to do with keyboard controls (though I can't seem to invoke them in any way on my Mac OS X platform), but surely there is some conflict in underlining the "n" in "new version" as well as the "n" in "downloaded news"?

version 0.9.27

The underlined "n"s stand for "no"?
