Floppy drive seek every 3 seconds

Bug Description

Calibre 0.9.8 running on 32bit Win XP SP3.
This happens when simply running Calibre on its own and has been the case since about 18 months ago when I first started using Calibre; the 3.5" floppy drive lights up and starts seeking every 2-3 seconds. Sticking a floppy in quietens it but it's still seeking as the drive light is on. The floppy drive is accessible during this, Calibre doesn't seem to want anything from it and sticking a floppy in makes no difference to Calibre. It's simply annoying having the rasping sound all the time.

OK, that's fair enough; there's a Samsung Note II (GT-N7100) attached which is failing to be recognised as MTP (because I still use XP...) and does this:

calibre 0.9.8 isfrozen: True
