Bug Description
I have been seeing this same behavior for a longish time (at least since 0.7 or thereabouts).
Use case is
* kubuntu 12.04 (linux+kde).
* calibre running minimised to system tray (presently 0.90)
* no other windows active.
* update alert pops up, click cancel, and calibre silently closes.
I also found this older thread which seems similar. http://

Fixed in branch lp:calibre. The fix will be in the next release. calibre is usually released every Friday.
