Bug Description

I have been seeing this same behavior for a longish time (at least since 0.7 or thereabouts).

Use case is
* kubuntu 12.04 (linux+kde).
* calibre running minimised to system tray (presently 0.90)
* no other windows active.
* update alert pops up, click cancel, and calibre silently closes.

I also found this older thread which seems similar. http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=127992

Log gave literally nothing useful after 'calibre-debug -g > log.txt 2>&1 &'

I use calibre all the time, if anyone can suggest some methods to help debug further I'm happy to help
