Device | Eject not ejecting device

Bug #1075782 reported by PeterT on 2012-11-06

Bug Description

Calibre 0.9.5 does not correctly eject a Kobo Touch or Kobo Glo (presumably the same for Kobo Mini) when option selected.

The device icon disappears from calibre but at the O/S level (Windows 7 either 32 or 64 bit) the drive remains.

With calibre 0.9.4 no such issue.

Hi Kovid,

I agree with Peter's observations. The eject command doesn't appear to pass over to the OS level for Win XP. I have to manually eject the device via Windows.

You mentioned that I had a file open and I know I don't otherwise Windows wouldn't let me eject the device and I would get a message.

I just went back and tested 0.9.3 and 0.9.4. Both ejected the device OK. I can't see how any changes in the driver in 0.9.5 could have affected this.

As a test, I also tried using Windows to eject the device while calibre was running. The device ejects OK, but calibre didn't see this. It is still showing the device is connected.

This is on a Windows 7 Professional machine with all the updates.

Fixed in branch lp:calibre. The fix will be in the next release. calibre is usually released every Friday.

Changed in calibre:
status: New → Fix Released

That was an interesting bug. There was an unsafe conversion of
char->wchar_t that for some reason (probably a change in the memory
layout of 0.9.5, that caused the adjacent memory location to no longer be 0)
never caused problems before.
