Bug Description

The Nexus 7 has just been announced, by Asus and Google. Some reviewers indicate that the hard link to Google Play is a disadvantage of the device. This is a golden opportunity for Calibre. Implement high quality support for the Nexus 7, drawing books from all of the other platforms, and you'll increase the sales of the Nexus 7 and increase the user base for Calibre.

I understand that you need a drive letter to be able to recognise an android device, but this makes it difficult for many to use say the Nexus 7 with calibre. You have a great program, and I have used it extensively with Kindle. I now have a Nexus 7 and it would be good to be able to use USB and an easy way to transfer book akin to the kindle

regards

Richard

The Nexus 7 (and all ICS/JellyBean Android devices) only support MTP and PTP, not Mass Storage - as such no v4+ Android device can be used in the Nexus 7 (note that any external devices such as SD cards can use MS, but not the internal storage, which is all that is possible on the Nexus 7).

Yes, I know. Re-opening bugs is not going to magically add MTP support to calibre. Use the content server.

And FYI MTP support in calibre is on my TODO list. But, it will take time (if it is possible at all). So unless you are willing to help with the development of a cross platform MTP driver, kindly don't re-open this ticket.

In the meantime I have got my Nexus 7 tablet working using FTP. I use NetDrive on the PC to mount the tablet as a drive letter and FIle Expert on the tablet acting as an FTP server. Then use Calibre Connect/Share Connect to Folder and connect to "Android/data/com.amazon.kindle/files" on the tablet drive letter and everything works fine. A little convoluted perhaps but it works.

NetDrive (www.netdrive.net) is free for non-commercial use. File Expert can be found in the Google Play store.
