Bug Description
I was taking a class in phonetics, and we made scatterplots to place vowel sounds at different frequencies. We needed to put the IPA symbol on the plot instead of just a dot, but Cairo Plot was unable to do this (we also needed to invert the axes, but this is a separate issue).
We should be able to specify a character or string (unicode) or another Cairo surface (e.g. for custom symbols.. stars, boxes, etc) to be used at each point instead of the default dot. I don't know if this should go in the data parameter (since it's not really data, but is tied to each data point), or a separate one. Any thoughts?
Note that this is different from groups. I may want to, say, put the word uttered as the dot, and the perceived vowel as the group (e.g. cat, bag, flap, sap, and nap all are in the group for the vowel [ae]).
