error running caffeinate in KDE Neon

Bug Description

KDE Neon is Ubuntu 16.04 with extra KDE repos for the latest KDE stuff.

I can get caffeine to run normally, but the caffeinate command gives me this error:

/usr/bin/caffeine-screensaver: 599: /usr/bin/caffeine-screensaver: dcop: not found
could not inhibit desktop idleness

I have no idea what that means or why it isn't working.

I presume that dcop is a program that no longer exists in recent KDE.

This bug is in caffeine-screensaver, a fork of xdg-screensaver which I introduced because at the time a new release of xdg-utils was very slow in coming.

The next release of caffeine will revert to using xdg-screensaver, so I don't propose to fix this bug.

Changed in caffeine:
status: New → Won't Fix

caffeine 2.9.0 no longer has this bug!

On the other hand, `caffeinate` just failed to actually inhibit suspend, so it's not working correctly. But this particular bug is gone.

I think caffeinate is now broken. Thanks for the heads up, I will file a bug.

This appears to be due to the way that xdg-screensaver works; in particular, it doesn't allow the root window's id to be used.

Well, caffeinate and caffeine-indicator are both failing for me (not actually inhibiting suspend). Not usre if it's a KDE issue or something else.
