bzr should give more information about the underlying transport error

Bug Description

Hi,

In

  http://0pointer.de/blog/projects/bizarre-fun.html

there is major confusion because trying to branch a http url that is 404
gives a generic error message:

  $ bzr branch http://jameswestby.net/nonsnesfa
  bzr: ERROR: Not a branch: "http://jameswestby.net/nonsnesfa/".

This seems to be true for all transports.

It would be useful if the underlying error could be displayed somehow, as it
would have made the user realise that they had been given dud instructions,
rather than blaming the tool.

Thanks,

James
