Bug Description

I'm not able to change the default editor to emacs for my project files. I've changed Setting>Configuration>User Configurations, and I see that value ending up in bazaar.conf, but it only uses that setting when editing bazaar configuration files. I've also tried setting EDITOR and BZR_EDITOR, also doesn't work. It always start gedit for my project files.

In you Gnome bar (the one that contains the Applications, Places, and System menus) You can edit the Applications>Text Editor entry using System>Preferences>Main menu.

Wim,

Can you clarify when exactly gedit is being launched when you're expecting BZR_EDITOR to be used instead?

For most files in your working tree, Bazaar Explorer will fall-back to your desktop (GNOME in this case) configuration to decide which app to use to "open" a file. To explicitly define the tool to use to "edit" various files, configure editors.conf as explained here: http://doc.bazaar.canonical.com/explorer/en/tutorials/customization.html#configuring-editors.

Basically I just want to use emacs for ALL text files whether they are configuration files or source files in my project. The BZR_EDITOR setting is just used for the configuration files of bazaar, not for source files in my project (at the least this is confusing, unless you call it BZR_CONF_EDITOR). The settings in editors.conf do not suffice because it requires me to specify the extension but I want to change the default editor. Of course, an easy way to change the GNOME default text editor would be fine by me.

At the moment it is very unclear what the desktop default is. The text editor is not mentioned in the "Preferred Applications". After some investigation I think that it should be /etc/alternatives/gnome-text-editor, but I have no clue on how to change that to emacs. However, I think it should not be whatever is filled in in Applications>Text Editor.
