Hi,
It's not incomplete in the sense of blocked, that was just transient while editing.
I think we understand the problem:
* there should be a warning as you suggest (easy)
* there should be an option to set the default format (easy, bug 484101)
* conversion should be faster - probably a separate bug; gradually being fixed separately
