bzr branch failes with: got an unexpected keyword argument 'private'

Bug Description

When I try to branch any launchpad branch, I get an error:

$ bzr branch lp:snappy
bzr: ERROR: Server sent an unexpected error: ('error', 'TypeError', "_makeBranchTransport() got an unexpected keyword argument 'private'")

$ apt-cache policy bzr
bzr:
  Instalita: 2.6.0+bzr6595-6ubuntu1
  Kandidato: 2.6.0+bzr6595-6ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 2.6.0+bzr6595-6ubuntu1 0

canonical IS is working on this, it would seem to be server side.
