'credits' is unbelievably slow and memory hungry

Bug Description

Run on a rather small tree I have here, 'credits' runs for almost 7 minutes before even showing a progress bar, finishes in around 9:20, and uses over 980 megs of memory to do it.

May be some time coming; having everything else on my machine swapped
out for 10 minutes isn't something I have the motive and opportunity
for often. And my experience with lsprof says it'll be some multiple
of that time with the profiling enabled...

Understandable :) Still - they really do help because they give me a
window on what you are seeing.

On bzr.dev, which is 5687 revisions it takes only a few seconds for me.
