Bug Description

On Mac OS X, with the default BSD sed. This variant of sed doesn't like

sed -i -e 's/a/b/' file

but prefers

sed -e 's/a/b/' -i '' file

which should work with gsed too.

installing gsed gets around this.

If you're happy with changes all instances to that ordering I can submit a pull request.

Hmm, we should be using $SED anywhere we're using sed -i or sed -e.

If you can point me to any other instances specifically, let me know and I'll get them fixed.
