Hitting ESC from Configuration Menu kills session

Bug Description
I'm using byobu on Centos7 with tmux 2.9a.
If I enter the Configuration Menu by hitting F1, I can't exit that menu without the full session being killed. What's the correct key to press to return to the current session?
