Byobu in WSL spawning multiple, unkillable timeout processes.

Bug Description

When running Byobu in WSL (Ubuntu 18.04 LTS) on Windows 10 x64, byobu continuously spawns timeout processes, which rather quickly grow to consume all available system memory.

it appears the only way to resolve this is to kill init, which, for obvious reasons, WSL does not like.

I'll happily provide any further information that you need, but I'm not sure what else you'll need from me as this is my first bug report.

Based on your code comments it appears that this is a known issue with fetching metadata:
