Unable to log in to GUI when byobu is set to launch at login

Bug Description

I had byobu set to start automatically when I log in to a terminal. Today when I logged out of Unity and logged back in again, lightdm would turn black, and then put me back into lightdm.

My xsession-errors reported this:

/usr/sbin/lightdm-session: 59: /usr/bin/byobu-launch: Syntax error: "fi" unexpected (expecting "then")

Turning off byobu's automatic start, allowed me to log in to the gui again.
