Bug Description

From time to time, byobu hangs after I return to the workspace where it is running. It does not respond to input and the time in the status bar stops. After returning to the workspace with byobu and waiting for a while, bybou start fast forwarding (which I observe by looking at the time in the status bar, which starts running very quickly executing the input from the past) until byobu reaches the the present time. After that, byobu becomes responsive and functions properly for a while again.

Distro: Arch Linux 3.6.2-1
Window manager: Xmonad 0.10-25
Byobu version: 5.21-1 (package downloaded from AUR: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/byobu)

Is this on a local system, or over a network/ssh connection?

This is on a local system. Currently, I do not have a way to test this on a remote machine.

I have only been using byobu for a day, and I've already seen this happen twice. It hangs for about two minutes, so it really makes byobu unusuable.

Workaround: When this occurs, running byobu in another terminal "un-sticks" the original.

I have actually reproduced this. This is an effect of tmux.

It's easy for me to reproduce like this...

 1. Perform a task that generates many lines of output. dmesg works. Or a long build process.
 2. While that output is scrolling, enter into scrollback mode (Alt-PgUp, for instance)
 3. Hang out there for a few seconds
 4. Press <enter> to escape out of scroll back mode
 5. Tmux will then scroll through each and every line you've missed in the mean time. If you're on a slow network connection, this can take a long time.

My workaround is to detach from the session (F6), and then reattach.

Essentially, it's this same problem, as reported to upstream tmux list:
