Too far away from panel

Bug Description

Slingshot appears really far away from the panel. This is even more noticeable now that Tom's popover-indicators branch has landed in wingpanel. We really need to render the popover closer to the edge of the screen.

Screenshot attached.

IMHO Tom's fake popovers are too far from the panel too.

Agreed with Sergey. They are all too far away from the panel.

Is it just me and my oft 'individualistic' system or has slingshot abandoned its 'trademark' pop-over styling (with the arrow point towards 'applications') all together in favour of a flat, gtk-menu style (see screenshot)? If so, is this a temporary glitch or a design decision?

@Lee, are you sure you got compositing enabled there? It looks like the fallback..

Yes he does, look at transparency...

Either Slingshot cannot detect compositing support, or he uses a weird compositor like xcompmgr or e17. There also seems to be a race condition with compositing detection in Mutter.

Sorry for the late reply, for some reason I wasn't received e-mail updates on this bug.

In answer to @Tom, yes I do have compositing enabled, via compiz. I shall have to report this as a separate bug. :-)

This is just a detail I've noticed, but it think slingshots and indicators's pop-over should be at the same distance from Wingpanel. If not, it is a bit inconsistent. A picture is better than a thousand words.

BTW, the "application" shouldn't be covered with blue when slingshot is launched, like what happens with the rest of the items of wingpanel? it's again about consistency, should i fill a bug in wingpanel?

Thanks, again, for this wonderfull project.

After a quick glance at code, it seems Slingshot doesn't draw the arrow itself, it just inherits the PopOver class. So I think this is a Granite bug...

On second thoughts, it's probably wingpanel's fault.
