Bug Description

1. Ubuntu version
Description: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Release: 12.04

2. Program version
medit:
  Installed: 1.0.3-1
  Candidate: 1.0.3-1
  Version table:
 *** 1.0.3-1 0
        500 http://fi.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/universe amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3. What I expected

To be able to use keyboard shortcuts for saving, find etc.

4. What happened

Nothing - there is no default shortcuts available and setting keyboard shortcuts trough edit/configure shortcuts doesn't help - they don't appear even next to menu items (as in "New Ctrl+n" etc.)

What happened with this? I'm using Kubuntu 12.04 but this wasn't an issue in 11.10. 'medit' is pretty nifty... I hope to see this fixed soon!

medit is a great editor, and for the past month or so I have just been using the ALT menu keys to perform basic operations. However, I just downloaded the source for 1.1.1 from SourceForge < http://sourceforge.net/projects/mooedit/files/medit/1.1.1/ >, built it and ran it and the keyboard shortcuts seem to be working thus far.

Simple build instructions:

sudo apt-get build-dep medit
./configure
make
sudo make install # Optional, or just run ./moo/medit

HOORAY!!!

Hopefully this fix will make its way into the repositories. While I don't mind compiling my own stuff, I like updates from the repos better.

THANK YOU!!!

I noticed that my repository installed version was 1.0.3. And the "news" for medit reports "Unbroke keyboard shortcuts when running under gtk-2.24.7." in version 1.0.5.

I used checkinstall to make a deb package for version 1.1.1. <http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3128810/medit_1.1.1-1_amd64.deb>

medit 1.0.93-1 (which has been in Quantal Quetzal for months) installs in Precise Pangolin with no problem. All the normal keyboard shortcuts come back, and I can add and change them.

Perhaps someone can just drop 1.0.93-1 into Precise Pangolin's main repository and all will be well. (There are newer versions of medit upstream, but the point here is to fix a fairly annoying bug in the current stable release, not to upgrade a stable release to new features.)
