Can you provide more information on what exactly happens when you try to choose a directory on a remote server ?
Does it segfault/crash or something ?

To reproduce:

1. Start gimmix with a fresh install
2. From "Music Directory:" select "Other"
3. No remote directories via gnome-vfs are available

But in any case, it seems a design flaw that I should be required to give gimmix separate access to the files on whatever server MPD is running on. What if that server is on the other side of the world? What if the MPD port is the only port I'm allowed to access, the only privileges I have? Other MPD clients work in this scenario. gimmix will not.

I am also seeing this bug, running Gimmix 0.4.3 on Gentoo. Interestingly, it seems to function correctly for managing the playlist, so I can add tracks on the server to the playlist, but I can't get the track info.

Yep, it works when adding tracks from the server. The only problem it seems is track info. Gimmix uses the taglib library to fetch tag information which works for tracks stored on local disk. I'm not sure how to get this working for remote files.
