Bug Description

My ubuntu release:
Description: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Release: 12.04
--

I use Kubuntu.

--

apt-cache policy mc
mc:
  Installed: 3:4.8.1-2ubuntu1
  Candidate: 3:4.8.1-2ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 3:4.8.1-2ubuntu1 0
        500 http://ubuntu.linux-bg.org/ubuntu/ precise/universe i386 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

--

I use mcedit as my favourite editor.

mcedit is part of the mc package.

I tried pasting into mc some text copied from kate with new lines.

For example:
--
<email address hidden>

DISPLAY=:0.0

# m h dom mon dow command
--

All the lines are now made into 1 in mcedit:
--
<email address hidden>=:0.0# m h dom mon dow command
--

I tried copying from konsole, kate - same result.

When pasting into kate - all is ok.

So it is clearly a mcedit bug...

my settings ins mcedit are

workaround - right click and choose paste from the menu.

if right click does not work - hold shift and then right click...

a nice take away is that shift + left clicking allows me to select and copy paste text in konsole and guake !

no more f3 to begin selection and f3 to end it and then f5 to paste... not that it was bad... i may still use it..

strange note - if I create a new linux user test124 and try editing a file with mcedit - the paste works ok...

same text pasted whille I am using the non-test user does not work in mcedit...

here is a workaround - compile mc by using --without-x in the ./configure script

here is a bug report from the mc project's own bugtracker - I am giving the link to the comment with the fix:
https://www.midnight-commander.org/ticket/1736#comment:2

This bug seems like affecting only me so solving it with a workaround should be enough.

If someone needs this fixed - report it upstream to https://www.midnight-commander.org/ticket/1736 - use the search system first ! to find relevant bugs.

closing this here in next comment.
