thunderbird 12.0.1 menu's not usable on lucid 10.04

after the big update to thunderbird 12 i have several users with a recurring complaint, several times a day they would not be able to use the dropdown menu's in thunderbird....

the dropdown menu , for instance "file" or "edit", does show but the listed items are not selectable/clickable.

this problem insists until thunderbird is restarted and will re-occur several times a day.

not sure how to collect more debugging information

I have this problem too. Lucid 10.04 and just upgraded (via apt-get) to thunderbird 12.0.1

I have also encountered this problem after upgrading to Thunderbird 12.0.1 on Lucid 10.04, kernel 2.6.32-41-generic.

The bug description matches my experience. Menus will display but disappear before they can be clicked on. This can happen several times a day and is not fixed until the program is restarted.

Thunderbird has been the only program on the system to exhibit the behavior.

The system is up to date for 10.04.

this buggy behaviour kept occurring frequently so have tried sever things.

the problem still occurs after:
removing all plugins.
starting in thunderbird safe-mode.
removing and creating an entire new user profile.

the problem disappears after:
disabling the visual effects.

system - preferences - appearance - visual effects - none

The disappearing menu just happened to me again. I clicked on the menu to select "Tools", then moving the mouse makes the menu disappear so that nothing is selectable. However, moving the selection by using the keyboard DID work without disappearing the menu.

I just switched to Firefox to add this comment in the bug report, now going back to Thunderbird to verify my description I find that the menu is working OK. Thunderbird was not restarted.

We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all reported bugs in a timely manner. This bug was reported over six years ago and there have been many changes in Ubuntu and Thunderbird since that time.
