Bug Description

I have 5 windows with lots of tabs, that are brought up each time FF loads.
I looked at one or two tabs, deleted a tab or two, I think, then went and started checking my email at AOL.
I looked at one msg., clicked on the up-arrow to look at the prev. msg., and nothing happened - thought I'd missed the button, and tried again - nothing. Tried down-arrow. Nothing. Tried clicking on other tabs - nothing. Tried other windows - sometimes the focus tab was running a routine that changed a logo picture - that kept going. If I minimized a window or -un-minimised it, I would see a string of increasingly smaller window title-bars descending the screen for the minimising visual effect (or the reverse), but no tab/window would display, nor was usable.
I went into "htop" and noted the process# of the Firefox process with the longest run-time, and called ubuntu-bug with it.
End of story.
I'll now go back into htop and kill the process, and restart FF. Probably everything will be fine. I may kill off a few tabs, just to be neat, and give FF less to do, in case it might make some difference...
Hope that the files ubuntu-bug pulls into this bug report are of use to someone, as this description probably isn't...
-Scott

Oh yes... almost forgot.

When I had Sakura (terminal prog.) call ubuntu-bug, I later saw that there was an error line printed, and the terminal still has not returned from the call... Here is the line:
"scott@scott-Asus-M2N68-AM-Plus:~$ ubuntu-bug 1895
[3327:3363:789657217:ERROR:x509_certificate_nss.cc(926)] CERT_PKIXVerifyCert for bugs.launchpad.net failed err=-8181
"
I do not know if this information will interest anyone, but there it is...

Hmm I can't piece together the whole sequence of events that could make this happen, but one thing I notice is that Firefox's memory usage exceeded your physical memory and went into swap.

From procStatus.txt:
VmPeak: 1930712 kB
VmSize: 1867308 kB - 1.78 GiB!
VmSwap: 100868 kB

From bootdmsg:
[ 0.000000] 903MB HIGHMEM available.
[ 0.000000] 887MB LOWMEM available.

The question is whether this is a memory leak or simply having a lot of content open.

We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all reported bugs in a timely manner. You reported this bug some time ago and there have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time.

Ubuntu 12.04 (precise) reached end-of-life on April 28, 2017.

Do you still see a problem related to the one that you reported when using a currently supported version of Ubuntu? Please let us know if you do otherwise this report can be left to expire in approximately 60 days time.

Thank you for helping make Ubuntu better.
