[system] window does not remember its size

The GIMP (2.6) program does not remember window position, even if I click the "save window position" button in its preference dialog box.

Could you please provide a screenshot of the save dialog in question, along with your resolution?

Please note that in the two examples, window size/positioning will NOT be a problem if it can REMEMBER my resize/reposition operation, and open in the saved state next time!

I hope the description is clear, and please let me know if you need to do some tests to find out the reason.

Thank you for the details you have provided. These two issues are two unrelated ones, and they will be easier to track if they have their separate bug reports. For example the first issue has already been reported in bug #944973, you can track that issue and make comments there. Let's keep this ticket for the GIMP issue, as it has been noticed by other users too (http://askubuntu.com/questions/47125/gimp-windows-placement-when-opened-in-unity), but it has not been reported yet. I am modifying the description of this ticket accordingly.
