Bug Description

Not working the front audio jack in Ubuntu 12.04 fresh installation. The microphone on the front panel is working without problems. The rear audio output is working. What diagnostic measures should I do to get more information?

If I run the Ubuntu 11.10 with a live USB of flash, the front audio jack works fine.

My hw configuration:

$ sudo lspci -v | grep -A11 -i "audio"

I suggest trying the latest kernel module to see if it has been fixed upstream. A lot of issues with VIA codecs were fixed recently: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/UpgradingAlsa/DKMS

Dave, thanks for the tip, but unfortunately it did not help me. I successfully installed the DKMS ALSA module but the sound in the front audio output does not appear (

This seems to be an upstream kernel bug.

I am having problems myself with this. Not sure if the latest ppa release will fix this. Upstream fix feb13, ubuntu ppa date feb16. Posting this up while the data is on my screen, before I do the reboots and such ...

    ALSA: hda - Fix initialization of secondary capture source on VT1705

    commit fc1156c0b0f7ad45ec03d919866349eeca2bf18c upstream.

    VT1705 codec has two ADCs where the secondary ADC has no MUX but only
    a fixed connection to the mic pin. This confused the driver and it
    tries always overriding the input-source selection by assumption of
    the existing MUX for the secondary ADC, resulted in resetting the
    input-source at each time PM (including power-saving) occurs.

    The fix is simply to check the existence of MUX for secondary ADCs in
    the initialization code.
