Bug Description

NetworkManger is able to detect wireless networks via a Linksys wireless card using the RaLink2500. However, when trying connecting, nothing happens. This is also reproducible in SuSE 10.2.
In my particular case, my network is WEP and I use a 10-digits hexadecimal number to authenticate. Connecting using a passphrase is also possible. No option works. With roaming disabled, I experience the same problem. With Networking disabled via NetworkManage, the problem persists as well. It worked under 6.06 and 6.10.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Could you please add the contents of your '/etc/network/interfaces' file and the ouput of 'iwconfig' after you have tried to connect to your network? Thanks in advance.

After I try to connect to the Wireless network, it falls-back onto the Wired one (which, now, goes to the same router).

iwconfig output after connection try (roaming enabled - I cut the lo and eth0 output as they have no wireless extensions):

ra0 RT2500 Wireless ESSID:""
          Mode:Managed Frequency=2.412 GHz Bit Rate:54 Mb/s Tx-Power:0 dBm
          RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Link Quality=83/100 Signal level=-12 dBm Noise level:-192 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

Could it be that NM isn't say "programmed" to connect to networks with names with spaces?

Note: /etc/network/interfaces (attached)
ath0, eth1, eth2 and wlan0 are non-existing network as (as far as I know) there's no device that provides them.
Please note as well that I've also tried to get my network working as I used to under Edgy and Dapper, that's I guess why you get to see my ESSID and Hex Password in the file.

Between, this is the same as happened in SuSE 10.2. It never gets to set interface up. A few months ago in SuSE, I could see the NM try to set the interface up (in its tooltip) and that was all it did. It has always stayed there. I had to use ifup, which has always worked on the card on both SuSE and Ubuntu.
