Upgraded to Ubuntu 12.03 to find that squid was replaced by squid3. Squid has a different config file in /etc/squid3/

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug in Ubuntu.
As you state, the configuration options for squid3 are different to those for squid2. During the 12.04 development cycle we did review whether an automated upgrade of the configuration file was possible - but it was not.
