Bug Description

Binary package hint: debian-installer

Hi there,
I tried using f6 (the function key) to do expert install & it sorts of works but doesn't give a menu or options for selecting & installing software :-

This is the procedure I followed :-

After the alternate CD boots up, one get the screen where one can choose to use one of the many ways to set up the system, I tried f6 (expert install) & while it worked till some way it didn't work for select & install software step. Here's the breakdown or things tht worked.

1. Gave me boot options Boot options d/ubuntu.seed initrd=/install/initrd.gz quiet --
After deleting the quiet flag it booted, giving me a verbose output as to what was happening.

2. It asks for keyboard selection, if I choose to go through the keyboard test, it shows as US international while in the menu there is no US international, there is one though US international (with dead keys) don't know if both are same thing or not.

3. Region is set to India.

4. It asks for clock to be set to UTC (most probably through some timeserver) which I refused, as the other OS which I've on the system uses BIOS clock. It doesn't take the correct time & gives some absurd time. And in everything from the moment, the packages are installed or logs are kept, they all have the wrong time.

5. It starts partman and gives proper selection, this part goes without any issue.

6. It asks for hostname, choose the default.

7. Somewhere before or after it probes for my network interfaces & makes the one which is connected as eth0 which is also cool.

8. Asks for username & password, after which installing the base system starts.

9. After this, it starts to automatically install the additional packages even though the heading is given :-
         Select & install software.

10. After there is a failure, pressing Escape gets a menu where all the steps are listed with option to open a shell, save debug logs to web, to floppy or to the hard disk .

Please lemme know if u need some more info. Thnx in advance.
