click path tool deselects freehand object

Using freehand to draw a 3-segment polyline, click select selects all, then click path --> nothing selected (by reaction to smooth nodes) although the status says "click to clear selection"

This is most annoying if you add the polyline in a complicated picture, and can only be worked around by using a fresh layer and use select all.

It appears this is connected to #414132.
