12.04 Alternate AMD64 freezes on language selection with wireless keyboard

Bug Description

UBUNTU 12.04 AMD 64 BIT ALTERNATE

quad and six core AMD Phenom II
LOGITECH WIRELESS K520 KEYBOARD
NOTE: all equipment has loaded previous Ubuntu desktop and alternative systems without problems

PROBLEM:
Using the 12.04 ALTERNATE AMD64 iso, the installation freezes at selecting Language.
It installs OK with:
1. desktop version
2. a PS/2 keyboard.

Other wireless keyboards not tried (I only have logitech which, as I say, have worked previously).

SUGGESTIVE OF a wireless keyboard driver not being installed before the start of the install when using the AMD64 alternate install - as the keyboard works fine until selecting Language.

No reports can be submitted as obviously none are generated.

The alternate version is required to install 12.04 on my business computers.

David

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. While we appreciate the difficulties you are facing, it would appear that the CD image (ISO file) you downloaded could be corrupt. There is an easy way to verify the integrity of the Ubuntu ISO files you download. Could you please visit https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM follow the instructions and report back as to whether or not the MD5SUM verified? Thanks in advance.

UBUNTU 12.04 AMD 64 BIT (ubuntu-12.04-desktop-amd64.iso)
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 960 @ 3.20GHz
Nvidia GTX 580 x2 in SLI

I have the same problem. The installer language selection screen loads (the one with the desktop in the background, NOT the initial one where you set boot options etc), then the mouse gets really slow. Like something is draining CPU power. Then eventually the mouse does move smoothly again, but the GUI is completely locked. I can left click and right click anywhere on the screen but nothing responds, not even the notification icons on the top right. Keyboard does not respond at all.

Downloaded ISO and burned to CD and USB. Booting from CD and USB does exactly the same. Have tried downloading the ISO from different souces as well with both having the same problem.

Currently running 11.10 x64 without any problems.

The hash does match with the hash on the UbuntuHashes page: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuHashes
128f0c16f4734c420b0185a492d92e52 ubuntu-12.04-desktop-amd64.iso

Is there maybe something else I can try to provide a workaround? Maybe setting some boot options? Or maybe some place where I can see the error messages so I can post them too? I have tried CTRL + ALT + F1 etc but no response. I have tried setting acpi to off (for what its worth) but then it just gives a black screen with blinking cursor and never reaches the installer's desktop.

Thanks
Steven

I have the same problem. My system is an intel i7 on motherboard Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H-B3. The keyboard and mouse are both Logitech wireless. It freezes on the second language choice page with the cd ubuntu-12.04-alternate-amd64+mac.
Thanks

Same issue - Logitech K350 wireless keyboard does not work during alternate install.

It also does not work post install to put in lvm whole disk pass phrase. So this is not just an installer issues, the keyboard is not being recognized anywehre prior to login prompt. Once the LighDM prompt comes up the keyboard works fine.

May I ask why this bug has been designated to expire?

Only five of us may have reported it _here_ but that does not mean there is not a bug: others may just use PS/2 keyboards to install for example. And the Logitech keyboard and behaviour and correct MD5Sums and the same hardware performing perfectly OK with other alternate versions is simply not overcoming the problem.

It's a slap in the face unless you can explain why it is happening that is _our_ hardware fault.
