Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

I have started to see display corruption in Feisty. It's difficult to say when it began, because I don't use this laptop for everyday work.

I usually see the corruption when scrolling in mutt in gnome-terminal. I'm attaching a screenshot showing some minor corruption; usually it's much worse and I become unable to read the email; it will often be covered with portions of pixmaps from firefox (which is running on another workspace). I can usually fix it by repainting the terminal a few times with different content.

Hi, please test the new upstream version if it is fixed in it. Then we can search for the correct fix and backport it to 6.6.3

After some suspend/resume/power cycles, I'm no longer able to reproduce this, so I think it may be a power management issue rather than a straightforward regression in the driver. as such, it's less serious than I thought, and it's also difficult for me to test.

For now, I'm unsetting the milestone and lowering importance. If I can reproduce it in the future, I'll follow up here.

The laptop in question had to be repaired, as the TFT switched off spontaneously. It's back from the repair shop and working fine, except that this bug is still present, even without any suspend/resume activity.

I too am seeing this on my T42 Radeon Mobility M7 LW [Radeon Mobility 7500]. I have only seen this happen in gnome-terminal, and not other applications. This only started happening on recent gutsy upgrades. That said, I did try compiz for the first time in the past couple days too, but had to revert back to 'No effects' as it does not work on my system. Basically, I don't know if it was me trying compiz or a recent upgrade, but I didn't have the problem until recently.

This is actually a pretty bad bug for me as I do almost all my work in a terminal, and with this bug sometimes what is presented in the terminal is not what is actually there. :(

Attached is a screenshot.

I believe my problem is actually https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vte/+bug/120858, as I have only ever seen corruption in gnome-terminal.

Reverting to status to New, as I believe another bug is causing my problem.
