Bug Description

I have a Toshiba M55-S139 laptop. It has the Atheros AR5005G Wireless Network Adapter. In Ubuntu 10.04, the WiFi worked fine, with very little issues. Now in Ubuntu 12.04, the WiFi connects for about 10 seconds and then randomly disconnects. I have tried resetting the WiFi settings, and it has not helped at all.

I don't know if it has something to do with the kernel, but I need an answer to fix this problem, or I'll have to rollback to Ubuntu 10.04.

I can provide more hardware info it it is needed. My laptop has been upgraded with maxed out ram....but I believe that is irrelevant in this matter.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/992519/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Did you upgrade or is it a clean install?

What is the output of:

sudo lshw -C network; lsb_release -a; uname -a; sudo rfkill list

Thanks

This is not a bug in gnome-nettool, gnome-nettool is a way to run tools like ping, arp, etc. It does not setup wireless networking.

I may confirm that. Acer Aspire 5110 laptop with 12.04 has this issue. Manual upgrading to 3.3 kernel fix this.
