Mouse preference panel won't change acceleration for laptop trackpad

Bug Description

On my laptop, Ubuntu's gnome-mouse-properties won't adjust the acceleration.
Fedora Core 2's mouse preference panel did adjust the acceleration, so I suspect
this is a software setting.

The mouse is always quite fast (too fast for my tastes).

I'm not sure that's a GNOME issue, I've just downloaded the fc2 control-center
package, they
have not patched it. Perhaps a kernel issue ? Somebody else with such problems ?

do you still have the problem ? Does it work after "killall gnome-settings-daemon" ?
