Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

After a recent update Firefox has been crashing on my system (Kubuntu 7.10). I can easily trigger the crash: just typing something into the Firefox Google search bar is enough. Also opening Gmail brings Firefox down the instant Gmail inbox loads.

Crash happens also in safe mode and with .mozilla directory deleted so that Firefox is as vanilla as I can get it.

Firefox version: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20061201 Firefox/2.0.0.3 (Ubuntu-feisty)
English and Finnish language packs installed.

Kjkorhonen, there seems to be something wrong with the report you have uploaded (it cant be unpacked). Please if you can manage to unpack in your system (with apport-upack) upload the CoreDump file so we will be able to retrace it.

Or if you prefer, as you can reproduce the crash, could you please try to obtain a backtrace by following the instructions on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs (it will be mandatory that you install the firefox-dbg package)

This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem.

Thank you in advance.

And here is the gdb backtrace from Apport CoreDump file. I hope these files are valid.

    apt-get remove --purge libflash0c2 libflash-mozplugin

This worked for me and I still have flash functionality and flashblock running. I was already at 24bit color and cannot comment on that.

I did not however make any changes to "firefoxrc" or any other files.

:-)

I had just completed upgrading from Dapper to Edgy and then immediately from Edgy to Feisty. (Seamlessly I might add) when I found that firefox would crash immediately upon loading gmail. After reading this thread and a few others, I wondered if it was indeed related to Flash at all and decided to test.

Using:
apt-show-versions | grep flash
I found only two...so I removed them:
apt-get remove --purge libflash0c2 libflash-mozplugin
I then opened firefox and gmail without any issues....oddly, I noticed that "flashblock" had loaded over an ad. Upon clicking it, I was shocked to find that I still had flash functionality.

Since everything is working fine, I have not investigated any further regarding why.

YMMV...Enjoy.
