It looks like that your /etc/default/grub file has been modified. Perhaps because you've manually edited it in order to apply those "power saving tweaks".

Try restoring the file:

sudo install -m644 /usr/share/grub/default/grub /etc/default/grub

Followed by continuing the installation:

sudo apt-get install

(if that fails, sudo apt-get install -f)

I have the same error on Precise x386 I can't uninstall this package. All I want is to get rid of it because it doesn't allow me to install or update anything. It has some wierd dependancies. I tried to
"sudo update-initramfs -u"
and choose xubuntu logo theme but no success. I had uninstalled KDE but this single file remained. Now I use Xfce. I now it is probably my fault but I hope it can be fixed somehow. I can't even install kubuntu-desktop now.

I could't fix it nor wait, so I reinstalled my system to the new version. So my notification about thi bug is kind of invalid now. But it appeared and it think it was due to mixing (instaling, uninstalling) different desktop environment.

I disabled the plymouth theme and uninstalled the packages (there were 4 causing errors) and now it's all back to normal.
