lirc does not work/start

irw reports:

irexec reports:
irexec: could not connect to socket
connect: No such file or directory

/lib/modules/3.2.0-24-generic-pae/kernel/drivers/staging/lirc does not exist
/sys/class/rc is empty

I am also having problems after upgrading to 12.04 from 10.10 with irexec, as it doesn't start
I am getting this message:

irexec
irexec: could not connect to socket
irexec: Connection refused

when I try restarting LIRC this error message come up

* Stopping remote control daemon(s): LIRC [fail]
 * Loading LIRC modules [ OK ]
 * Unable to load LIRC kernel modules. Verify your
 * selected kernel modules in /etc/lirc/hardware.conf

But the remote works, but unlike your hardware.conf files mine has items listed in modules

I just looked at conf file from 12.04 machine and it had
REMOTE_MODULES="lirc_dev mceusb"

so after changing I was able to restart lirc with out the errors. When I ran irexec the previous error stopped happening.

So you might want to try restarting lirc incase any errors come up with this command
sudo /etc/init.d/lirc restart

Does this mean that the bug is gone after updating hardware.conf?
