Bug Description

Ubuntu 12.4 Desktop (32 bit) freezes after install on HP dv7-3183cl.
The install media was booted from a USB drive. Live mode works fine and the install finished successfully.
After boot, the boot menu is displayed, then the splash screen. After that the screen flickers a few times and then remains blank. The keyboard gives no response (no caps lock toggle or switching to other consoles).
I have tried to start the X server in recovery mode and it will not start.
I have re installing three times and the issue remains.
This laptop has nvidia GEFORCE with CUDA video.
Specs:
GeForce G105M
16 CUDA Cores
VBIOS Version 70.18.1f.00.2e
Memory: 512MB
Memory Interface: 64-bit

I have installed 11.10, and the machine works fine.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/990836/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

I'll be happy to add any information I can, but there isn't much I can do add. From http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Reporting

Step-by-step directions for how you reproduced it - Install 12.04 and try to boot
When was your system last working properly? - 11.10
photo of the screen - The screen is black and the system doesn't respond to keyboard or mouse movements.

If any other logfiles or tests are necessary I will try to help.
