Happened to me too in the following situation:
I checked the gnome-power-statistics when the battery was fully charged, and it was blank.
I unplugged the netbook, and at first it was still blank, but after some minutes of discharging the application displayed correctly when I reopened it.
I plugged the netbook again (charging state), and gnome-power-statistics was blank again.
