Bug Description

Sound worked fine in Oneric. After upgrading to Pangolin last night, there is no longer any output from the headphone jack. Opening up alsamixer shows a headphone output detected and unmuted, but the volume is fixed at zero.
Sound works properly under Pangolin with the Oneiric kernel (3.0.0-17-generic).

I take back what I said about sound working properly using Pangolin with the Oneiric kernel. With the Pangolin kernel, the sound does not work at all through the headphone jack; with Pangolin and the Oneiric kernel, the sound will often cut out part of the way through a song, but will reappear at the start of a new song. This might or might not be a separate bug :O

OK, the behavior reported in #2 appears to be a rhythmbox bug. I'll file that separately.

Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

I'm having the same problem. I've noticed that if I have the headphones plugged in when the machine is turned off and then boot up with them in, sound will come out of them and not the speakers. However, removing them will not restore sound to the speakers. When booted up without them, plugging them in does result in sound coming out of the headphones, however sound will still come out of the speakers.

Never had this problem before Precise. Very odd.

For me, it looks like this is a duplicate of Bug 978880, so I have marked it as such.
