Bug Description

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64-bit.

Alt-Tab in Unity (Not Unity 2D)

1. Launch 4 instances of say, Gnome Terminal.
2. Launch some other app like say, Firefox.
3. Minimise all windows.
4. Use Alt-Tab to highight the Gnome Terminal sessions - Pause for a moment to alow the switcher to drill into the 4 Terminal windows (Keep the Alt key pressed).
5. Release the Alt key to bring one of the Terminal instances back into focus from it's minimized state - You'll notice that the window is all white. You'll have to select the desktop background or another window first before the Terminal window can be interacted with.

I'm using Nvidia driver 295.40 installed via Ubuntu "Additional Drivers" application.
Graphic card is GeForce 9800 GT (512 Meg) With accelerated effects on.
I have dual monitors.

Kind regrds,

Iestyn Guest

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/990069/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

I also have this bug and it happens when switching windows via mouse click, Alt-Tab, or any of the various Launcher methods. I also have a Nvidia graphics card 8400GS. I have no idea where to begins figuring out which package is causing whindows to go white when brought into or out of focus. I suspect compiz or the Launcher being the root cause but all I can do is confirm that is happens. I have three screenshots of it. One is during window selection after clicking on the Programs icon in the Launcher with multiple windows open. The second shows VLC completely white while out of focus and playing a video. The third picture shows a terminal window open in focus completely white after clicking it's icon on the Launcher.

Sorry if I've picked the wrong package - I think the Alt-Tab application switcher is part of Compiz !?

I'm pretty sure it is a bug introduced by Unity.
This doesn't happen when i use Gnome 3 or Cinnamon on my machine, Unity 3D only.

Ubuntu 12.04 x64,
NVIDIA Quadro FX 3450/4000 SDI,
NVidia driver 295.40.

affects: compiz (Ubuntu) → unity (Ubuntu)

It also happens if i put a window over onther one, then i clic to select the bottom one. It' a terrible bug on laptops, because I always have to put different windows in the same "plane" and can't overlap them.

Happens to me too. Not only on alt-tab. It occures randomly for me on window unmimize.
Ubuntu 12.04 i686
nVidia 295.40

p.s. occured just now, when i mistype my user password in auth window. Instead of saying that the password is wrong the window content becomes white.

It happened to me. It seems that it has to be something with the new unity settings for compiz after upgrade from 11.04 or 11.10. I've found a workaround restoring unity's default settings by running unity --reset. This restores to the original settings, so if you've made a lot of changes with the ccsm (like me) it will be LOST. If you have enough patience, you can apply all of your changes back. It worked for me.
