Bug Description
When attempting to set a powersave and powerdown
set of values for the console screen with the
setterm command, the laptop LCD backlight doesn't
turn off, and the screen becomes garbled untill a
key is pressed. The command used, as an example is:
setterm -blank 1 -powerdown powersave -powerdown 1
This behavior is the same for both apm and ACPI,
although the apm behavior can be changed by
setting the CONFIG_
kernel configuration, which causes the backlight
to turn off normally.
This behavior was noticed on an IBM ThinkPad R50
notebook computer.

This seems pretty clearly a kernel issue, and should have been reassigned some
time ago...
