Bug Description

The leptonica-progs-1.68-4 package in Oneiric provides various utilities including histotest.
There is documentation referring to the man page for histotest but that man page is actually missing.

Ok, but still a bug in Oneiric and Natty.

Regarding Precise, it is not yet out of beta testing - it won't even boot on my hardware - so I haven't used it.
Why was histotest removed in leptonica-progs-1.69? Is there replacement for its functionality?

Dan Bloomberg, the author of Leptonica removed histotest. I think he just wanted to separate the wheat from the chaff. Feel free to contact him directly if you wish to discuss. The source code for histotest still exists, it just isn't built or shipped by default.

I removed histotest from leptonica 1-69 (Debian package) because I didn't want to ship too many programs in leptonica-progs. Here is the description:

/*
 * histotest.c
 *
 * Makes histograms of grayscale and color pixels
 * from a pix. For RGB color, this uses
 * rgb --> octcube indexing.
 *
 * histotest filein sigbits
 *
 * where the number of octcubes is 8^(sigbits)
 *
 * For gray, sigbits is ignored.
 */

I will include it in the next Debian release. It is (and will continue to be) included in the source that can be downloaded from the web site, either at leptonica.org or code.google.com/p/leptonica.

Ok, thanks for the updates, Jeff and Dan. Looking forward to the return of histotest in the next release. So, this BR can be closed. Can anybody do that?
