ubuntu 12.04 (alternate-amd64+mac) takes ~2hrs to install

Bug Description

Installing Ubuntu on a MacBook Pro 8.2 takes around 2hrs (installing the packages seems to be very slow). For further information see attached install logs. (In a VirtualBox under Mac OS X it takes around ~20mins to install Ubuntu)
